Why the new blog address? The long story is down below. The short story? Everything Apple’s MobileMe does, I can do for free or cheaper than their costs.

So welcome to smpcentral.com. The home for all your smelly messy poopy and other fun stuff.

Me

Here’s the long story.

I’ve been a customer of Apple’s MobileMe product since the very first day they offered it to the public as iTools with email and online file storage. At the time it was free, but about 2 years after it became available it moved to a pay model. It’s a $99 a year fee which isn’t too bad when you think it’s just $8.25 a month, but I wasn’t really using much of it’s services or if I were, it’s incredibly slow. the options they do offer, 20gb of internet accessible file storage (iDisk), web mail, online contacts, address book, photo gallery and a “Find My iPhone” feature. All neat but all together, I don’t think I get $100 of use out of it. The iDisk feature is terribly slow or unresponsive…a lot, I don’t care about the online contacts/address book thing. Web mail? I can get it anywhere and I know where my iPhone is…most of the time. The only thing I’ll miss is the sync feature to the cloud for access from other computers but my only other computer I use it to sync to is the one connected to my TV, which I control from the Mac that has all the info I’m syncing from. This sync feature is handy for my iPhone but when I connect it to my Mac, it updates all that junk anyways so it’s not worth it to me.

So welcome to smpcentral.com. This is just some hosting space I have access to where this site can live and I can update my most important info for you people, when I find the time or get the motivation to put up some new kid news, which recently hasn’t been too often. With the winter coming and the hermit feeling coming on, I’ll finally be able to write the posts I’ve been meaning to write, posts the photos I want and edit the home videos I’ve been wanting to edit down for a very long time. So thanks for visiting and I’ll see you around.
